The Environmental Commission continues to encourage responsible environmental practices.  Below are two websites that provide valuable information concerning the responsible use of fertilizers and the use of local indigenous plants.

DO YOU HAVE WARETOWN’S BIGGEST TREE?

The search for the biggest trees in Waretown is underway!  This fall, the Environmental Commission challenged the children (second-six grades) of the Frederick A. Priff and Waretown Elementary Schools to find the town’s largest trees.  Prizes will be awarded for the largest trees found.  Children were given instructions on how to measure the circumference and height of each tree found.  Winners will be announced at the annual Arbor Day celebration in April 2009.

Kindergarten and first graders are participating in a tree coloring event and they will also be awarded certificates at the Arbor Day Celebration in April 2009.
